Two Minnesota artists consider the changing agricultural landscape--on the land, in the museum, and on the World Wide Web

An Acre of Art

September 29ÐNovember 19, 2000

MINNEAPOLISÑAn Acre of Art, a new three-part exhibition of works by Minnesota artists Mark Knierim and Robert Lawrence, opens September 29 at The Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Sponsored by the Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program, the exhibition will be on view until November 19, 2000. It will open with a free public reception on Thursday, September 28 from 7Ð9 p.m.

An Acre of Art considers the agricultural landscape, revealing the artistsÕ histories with the land. Their project will feature an exhibition of mixed-media sculpture at The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, including a chicken coop housing KnierimÕs pet chickens, Scout and Mabel; a web site (www.h-e-r-e.com/AcreOfArt.html) with a "chicken-cam" that lets on-line visitors check in on the chickens; and one acre of land near Monticello, Minnesota where the artists have planted corn and created poetic, sculptural space around it.
